$550 build [July 2016]

It seems like being on a budget today means so little, because you can now get some very powerful specs for the money. Today I will show a great budget build for the month of July.

Lets get right into it with the parts of this PC.

CPU: Intel Core i3 6100. ($117)

This CPU will be good enough for gaming and light editing. You will be able to run almost every and this CPU shouldn’t bottleneck the GPU too much. It is very power efficient and a good value processor.

MOTHERBOARD: Asus H110M-A Micro ATX LGA1151 Motherboard ($60)

This motherboard has what you need to game. It is a Micro ATX motherboard, but that is fine. It supports up to 32 GB of RAM in case you want to upgrade your PC’s RAM. It doesn’t support SLI/Crossfire, but in this kind of budget you aren’t really looking for something like that. The motherboard has the bare essentials, and that is okay.

RAM: Crucial 8GB (1 x 8GB) DDR4-2133 Memory. ($34.49)

I chose this RAM card because even though it isn’t a looker, it is good and cheap. If you want something flashier, go ahead.

STORAGE: Western Digital Caviar Blue 1TB 7200RPM ($49.99)

I decided to get a good-old hard drive to get a ton of games instead of a fast, yet limited, SSD. With this you’ll be able to get a lot of programs and games, and in the future you can always upgrade and add an SSD.

GPU: AMD RX 480 ($200)

Of course I had to include AMD’s latest mainstream GPU. This thing is beast at 1080p gaming, and can do some 1440p too! You will have no problems with this powerful GPU.

Well, you will have one big problem with the RX 480: it’s availability. You will seriously struggle to find it in stock right now. or you will find it really overpriced, so beware. I recommend you to keep your eyes open for when it gets restocked, because it will probably get out of stock rather fast.

*Alternative: Nvidia GTX 970 ($270)

I don’t recommend you to make this purchase, but if you really need a “budget” GPU you could use the 970. Note that the overall build price will rise to about $620 US dollars.

*Alternative: R9 380 2GB ($180)

Now, I really don’t recommend this GPU as it is significantly weaker than 480, but if you need something around $200 right now, get this one. If you can wait, DO IT.

CASE: Cooler Master N200 MicroATX Mid Tower Case ($44.54)

This case is actually kind of pretty, granted it is not gorgeous, but it gets the job done. It has a dust filter and many other stuff. It is a great value case to consider.

POWER SUPPLY: EVGA 500W 80+ Bronze Certified ATX Power Supply ($47.98)

Probably 500W is kind of overkill, but this is very cheap and reliable power supply that is definitely worth it.
